This year, the Newport County Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) will be holding its 92nd Annual Awards Celebration Dinner on Saturday, October 1, 2011, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Goat Island, Newport, Rhode Island. The Reception is at 6:00pm. Dinner will be served at 7:00pm.
This year the Guest Speaker is Dr. Bernard LaFayette, educator and civil rights activist.
The cost of the tickets for this event is $60.00 per person. The cost for an ad to be placed in the NAACP 92nd Anniversary Souvenir Booklet is described in the enclosed flyer. The booklet size is 8 1/2” by 11”.
Some of the issues that this branch is involved in are: (1) Education Committee is reviewing the hiring of minority educators; (2) Legal Redress Committee, assisting persons with Civil Rights issues; (3) Political Action Committee, holding Candidates Forums with Candidates who represent the Newport County citizens; (4) the Branch sponsored “Stay-In-School Projects”, giving out backpacks containing school supplies; and (5) Scholarships to College Students.
During the Dinner, Awards will be presented to Aquidneck Island citizens in the following categories: Education, Role Model and Community Service.
The 92nd Anniversary Annual Awards Dinner is the branch’s only source of funds for the years 2011-2012 operating expenses. Your support of this endeavor will help us to continue with our missions.
“The NAACP works tirelessly to end racial discrimination while also ensuring the political, social, and economic equality of all people.”
